With the Black Truck multi-effects pedal, Mooer presents the ideal no-frills solution for all guitarists who want to keep it simple and spare themselves the hassle of scrolling through virtually endless menus to find the desired sound settings. This all-in-one floorboard modeller has been specially developed for Hard Rock and Metal, offering a comprehensive input section with a compressor as well as overdrive and high-gain circuits, followed by a parametric five-band EQ, a sophisticated modulation section, and the innovative Space module for adding numerous variations of reverb and delay to the sound. On its rear panel, the multi-effects pedal features an FX loop that allows additional effects to be integrated into the signal chain alongside a pair of stereo line outputs and a headphone output with a designated volume control and integrated speaker cab simulation that delivers high-quality audio signals for direct recording. The scope of delivery of the Mooer Black Truck also includes a handy transport case.
The effects sequence starts on the right-hand side with a compressor and tone control for shaping the input signal, and continues with a natural-sounding overdrive (OD), a high-gain module with amazing gain reserves, and a mid-boost, ideal for all classic to modern Hard Rock and Metal sounds, alongside a noise gate to keep things quiet during any gaps. The subsequent five-band EQ, which covers a frequency range from 100Hz to 4kHz, allows the output signal to be effectively boosted or attenuated by up to 18dB, while the Mod module offers just the right phaser, tremolo, and flanger effects for the respective musical genre in addition to sub-divisions for creating rhythm pattern variations. Users can also control the speed of the delay and modulation effects by foot using the Tap switch on the unit's left-hand side. Finally, the Space module adds reverb and delay/echo effects to the sound via the designated switches.
Since no multi-effects pedal is complete without a display, the Mooer Black Truck also features a compact LCD screen that provides the most essential information about the tuning function and the pedal's current operating mode. The Black Truck offers two modes: Live mode enables the control elements to respond in real time to the settings made by the user and the effects modules to be activated and deactivated using the corresponding illuminated footswitches, whereas Preset mode alternatively allows the five footswitches to be used to recall up to five previously saved presets. Users can easily switch between the operating modes by pressing the Tap and Space switches simultaneously.
Featuring six of the most important effects in a compact floorboard unit with a simple and intuitive layout, the Mooer Black Truck is the ideal solution for shaping and creating full-fledged Metal sounds using an entire effects chain in next to no time. This multi-FX pedal, which is easy to stow away and transport in a gig bag or case thanks to its ultra-slim design and low weight, will make life significantly easier for guitarists by frequently sparing them the hassle of lugging around an entire arsenal of heavy equipment, such as an amp, speaker cabs, and perhaps even a pedalboard, especially for live gigs. What is more, its practical connectivity, authentic Metal sound, and optimum selection of effects allow the Mooer Black Truck to be flexibly used for a wide variety of applications and effortlessly cover a wide sonic palette – from transparent and warm-sounding settings through to fire-breathing Metal tones.
Mooer is based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and has been making products for guitarists since 2010, which include compact single pedals through to multi-effects units and compact amplifiers. The company initially produced a range of mini pedals before making perhaps its most significant breakthrough in 2016 with the sophisticated Ocean Machine delay pedal, which was designed in collaboration with Devin Townsend. Mooer's product range now also includes solutions that feature amp modelling, IR-based speaker simulation, and matching equalisers, and the company's focus remains firmly on the use of digital technology.
The versatile Black Truck multi-FX pedal from Mooer can be connected in between the instrument and the amplifier in the conventional way or operated in the amp's FX loop using the four-cable method, but it also allows an entire rig comprising a power amp and one or more speaker cabs to be created using its stereo outputs, putting virtually unlimited sonic possibilities at the user's fingertips. No matter what setup a guitarist prefers, the compact and robust Black Truck will always make a convincing case thanks to its authentic Hard Rock and Metal sound, lively dynamics, and an intuitive, easy-to-use interface that does not require users to read through lengthy operating manuals beforehand. The Mooer Black Truck can be operated using any conventional 9V adapter (available separately) for connection to a power source.
