These connectors are great and very serviceable
Neumann recommends using a crimp tool, but I don't think this is necessary as the stripped braided screen, once folded back over the outer sheath of the cable provides enough additional girth to the overall diameter of the cable, to make the cable a tight fight. The inside of the rear end of the connector is threaded which means that you have to screw the prepared cable into the the connector. The good thing about this is that, whilst a little fiddly to screw on the connector, it provides a really good connection of the cable screen to the metal body of the connector, leaving only the two inner cores requiring soldering. It also means that the connector can be removed in the event of cable failure over time and reused to make up another cable.
Once prepared, the screen is tucked in nice and tightly and well away from the solder terminals, making short circuit near impossible.
The plastic connector cover slides on really easily and precisely and 2 narrow slots in the cover mean that the connector can easily be removed using a small screwdriver
Neumann have a winner, here.
