I wasn't sure if I really needed a monitor controller, after all there are many knobs, both the real and the software ones, at my disposal - on a sound card, there's a computer volume setting, monitor speakers have volume knobs, and then there's the recording software.
But now, after about 4 months later, I'm really glad I bought it.
Nothing beats simplicity of a solid volume button. This way, you can find the sweet volume spot for all the stuff I mentioned in the first paragraph and only care about the overall volume without messing with the critical volume balance of the components in your signal chain.
The unit itself is reassuringly heavy, it's built like a tank, rubber studs ensure it will not travel freely across your desktop. Having said that, it's easy to move it around when YOU want it to make space for something else.
The wheel travel is balanced on the heavy side - just enough to allow you to make small and precise volume adjustments. At the same time, it's pleasantly smooth.
Mute and Mono buttons work as advertised, when they're ON (when they mute or switch the sound to mono), they remain depressed so you have a visual control to confirm that you haven't gone deaf :)
The short version of the review is "Buy one".

Solid Build Besides The Rubber Feet
Debugger 22.07.2020
The body is heavy enough to make it place stably.
The knob is made of metal, the feel of turning is very smooth. Also, the mono and mute switches are good.
Including XLRs, jacks and a 3.5mm input socket, very useful.
The only bad is the rubber foot are very easy to loose.

It's just a simple controller

Can't argue enough how simple this built is. You don't need anything else on a passive controller like this. Very much recommended.
Unfortunately there was an error. Please try again later.

Super Volume Controller für Studio MomitoreGreat volume controller for Studio Momitore
SvenH 08.12.2015

I hung the Palmer between my ULN 8, my separate KH amplifier and studio monitors in order to have separate volume control for my monitors, as in my case. The connections can be made completely symmetrical, there are separate switches for mute and mono and, very important!, the sound is not changed in any way. At least I can't find anything negative about it. Only the paint is a little susceptible to scratches, which is ultimately rather unimportant. All in all, a very stylish and inexpensive tool at a professional level.
