When I was thinking of upgrading my son's LP guitar I was sure that it must be something from Seymour Duncan because I liked the sound of the Pearly gates, Seth lover, Whole lotta and Slash.
But which pickups will be most suitable for my 13 years old son who is progressing lighting fast and loves to play blues, rock, and hard rock, that was a big question?
I was investigating everything online regarding all humbuckers from Seymour Duncan, which I never had a chance to hear live, but that wasn't enough.
Finally I ended up in the professional studio with a bunch of guitars, I never saw such a collection, just name it and it was there. After hours of listening to my friend who is a professional musician playing several Gibson LPs with original Gibson humbuckers and Seymour Duncan pickups I chose Saturday Night Special as a winner.
Great for blues, rock and hard rock. Man the sound is amazing, much, much better than you can imagine over the Seymour Duncan Youtube videos. It is literally different, the sustain is crazy, from the clean sound you got goosebumps, and from the combination with dirty sounds you got that highly professional guitar sound experience. Seymour Duncan recommends 0.047 uf capacitors with these pickups and first we tried it with Orange Drop capacitor 0.047 uf, the sound was really fat which I liked but it was too dark. So we replaced it with Jupiter Bumble bee 0.022 uf, and boom that's it, that's how Les Paul should sound for my taste. Great, fat, strong sounds, also so gentle when you need it.
I highly recommend these pickups. I'm leaving this review after a year of listening to my son play this guitar. He is so happy with this guitar, actually this is his favorite guitar over other LP's and Fenders. If you like fat, really dark sounds for heavy stuff then just go with 0.047 uf capacitors, you will be very satisfied.
