Practical, tho not particularly toneful,,
Anonymous 29.05.2014
I own an Ibanez S/S/H guitar and was tryng to make it more versatile by fitting this pickup in the neck position.I fitted a couple of switched pots, to allow or coil tapping as well as neck and bridge pickups together. I was hoping that this would allow for various combinations of humbucking and single coil sounds, giving me 'ballpark' simulations of various styles of guitar
The pickup is very well made and instalation was simple following the diagram included.
I feel the Lil'59 is misnamed as it doesn't shares any comon specs with Seymour duncan's 59 full size humbucker. The sound is closer to a fat single coil sound, though lacking the transparancy and detail of one. I found the sound to be rather cold and nasaly and after a few months replaced it with a traditional strat pickup. Although this made the guitar less versatile, I much prefer the tone.
I think this pickup would suit someone who is bothered with tradition single coil hum, perhaps a function or club band who plays in places wth noisey wiring or lighting.
In fairness, I've heard some decent sounding demos on YouTube and was told that the pickup is quite popular with jazz fusion guitarists. Unfortunatley it didn't suit me, although I'm glad I tried it as it was useful to understanding more about guitar wiring options and the types of tone available.

t
The classic 59 in single coil housing
taddeomaiden 30.10.2017
Great pickup overall, this little brother to the Duncan 59 humbucker needs no introduction, as it's renown.
That said, this humbucker in single coil housing is very faithful to the classic 59 with its creamy tone perfect for leads and chords, it fits perfectly in a strat and it's splittable if you want to.
Solid housing, regular installation procedure, great sound.

I followed the suggestion on the SD website of an SJBJ-1b JB Jr. in the bridge, an SDBR-1n Duckbuckers in the middle and an SL59-1n Little '59 in the neck to replace the stock pick ups on a 2001 USA strat ....happy with the results see example in use........
