Seymour Duncan SHPG1N Zebra

I bought the set to upgrade a PRS Santana SE and I can't say enough good things about them, despite them being "just" an alnico 2 magnet, they pack quite a punch when you kick up the gain, a good grawl of a distortion without ear piercing mids.
Want warmth and smoothness ? Slap to the neck pickup and role that tone knob just a tad and boy oh boy, you just microwaved your butter. It makes each note role and embrace you like a weighted heated blanket

tldr: quite versatile with 4 wires for coil splitting ability if you so wish for.

Was looking for a replacement pickups for my Gibson Firebird Studio, as the stock 496 pickups were too hot for my style. Considering a lot of different ?boutique? pickups in a 400¤ range I realized that there is nothing wrong with the ?standard? Seymour Duncan pickups. I am ready to bet anyone that playing around with pickup height & polepieces in any vintage output Seymour Duncan and any boutique manufacturer in the same guitar in the hands of an experienced guitarist, even an another guitarist would struggle to hear a substantial difference. Let alone an average listener. I see Seymour Duncan as a golden standard right now - quality product with predictable results at a fair price.

After listening to a lot of sound samples on Seymour Duncan website (which are helpful a lot, especially the band mix samples!), decided to go with APH1 in the bridge an the Pearly Gates in the neck.

Now, I am a huge fan of single coils and am not so familiar with humbucker pickups, so it took me a while to set up the humbucker pickup height to work properly with my rig which are all extremely sensitive to pickup input (fuzz face, rangemaster...). I found this to be particularly difficult to do in the neck position as in a lot of setups the bass frequencies overwhelm the treble and the pickup gets lost in the mix. Pearly gates was no exception here, but if you take your time to tweak the pickup to your rig... you?re in for a treat - this is an amazing neck humbucker.

Ich habe die beiden Pick ups in einer gold Top LP von Stagg mit einem massiven Body aus Erle verbaut. Muss dabei sagen: Ich hatte beide Pick ups schon mal vor über 10 Jahren in einer echten LP Custom. Daher kannte ich den Sound.

Der Ebenholz Grifbrett sound zusammen mit dem Mahagoni Body waren aber damals nicht wirklich mein Ding. Das ist jetzt anders mit Palisander Griffbrett und Erle Body. Zusätzlich hab ich mir von Duncans Seite den Schaltplan für "Single coil shifting" runtergeladen und über die 2 Volume Regler via Push Pull realisiert.

Der Sound ist einfach fantastisch. Die nicht zu übersatten Vintage Zerrsounds sind überzeugend, setzen sich mit Biss & Charakter sehr gut durch und der Output beider Pick ups läßt es zu, daß auch im "single coil shifting" die Sache erst so richtig interessant wird! Sowohl einzeln als single coil, als auch vor allem in der Mittelstellung (beide Pick ups zusammen) erklingen sehr feine sounds, die sich vor keiner Strat/Tele zu verstecken brauchen. Besonders der glockige sound in der Zwischenposition setzt ganz neue(alte) Maßstäbe und erinnert an ältere amtliche Sounds.
Es gibt auf Duncans Seite neben "Hörproben" auch noch einen "Jimmy Page" Schaltplan für LP. Bei dieser Schaltung kann man zusätzlich beide Pick-Ups noch out of phase schalten.....werd ich auch noch irgendwann probieren.
Aber schon jetzt ist diese Gitarre mit den beiden Duncans neben meinen beiden Strats vom Charakter her mein absoluter Favorit und ich kann beide Pick ups Neck & bridge) als absoluten Geheimtip nur weiterempfehlen.

Vraiment bluffant ce micros,aprés avoir acquis le bridge position qui est tout aussi fantastique je me suis payer la suite logique ce seymour duncan neck position pearlygates et c'est le meilleur micros manches que j'ai eu l'occasion d'essayer et j'ai 15 ans de guitare derriére moi!!,vraiment blues rock accoupler a un marshall full lampes c'est tout simplement tout l'histoire du rock qui apparait sous nos doigts et dans nos oreilles !!a essayer sans hesiter
Je les ai installer (le set ) sur une épiphone les paul tribute plus,cette guitare est d'origine équiper d'un systéme push pull,donc de passer de simple a double bobinage d'un simple clic!!
C'est la ou ces micros rentre en jeux ils sont équiper de 5 fil (prevu pour le splittage donc!)fantastique !!
