Versatile acoustic pickup
Rjones86 23.02.2017
The Seymour Duncan Woody is one of a huge range of acoustic pickups by many manufacturers, and it stands out in its field for two simple reasons: ease of use and sound quality.

It's not the cheapest or the most expensive so it is pitched somewhere in the middle, but it is reliable and simple. It clips into the sound hole with a clever mounting system that uses soft foam to hold the pickup in place - it stayed perfectly where I wanted it to every time it was used. There is also plenty of cable so on stage movement is easy and unencumbered.

The Duncan Woody outputs a very clear acoustic tone through the PA system or through an amplifier. I've used it with dreadnought and jumbo guitars and it faithfully reproduced acoustic tonal qualities of both. There is an impressive lack of noise too; this is a very well made pickup. It is still a single coil so can feed back under gain but that's a very rare occurrence and to do so would be more likely user error than the pickup's fault.

On the whole this is heavily recommended for the honest working musician - I've used it for many gigs and I'd happily do so again. It's never let me down.

SM
Better than expected
Sean McD 04.02.2020
Bought this around 2 years ago to allow me to amplify my standard acoustic through a PA as a temporary solution but I still use it every week. Prone to picking up interference when going straight in so I recommend using with a DI. I thought that the cable would break easily but it's quite sturdy and hasn't shown any issues yet.

Only other gripe is that it can sometimes misrepresent one side of the strings. Lower strings might sometime be way louder than the higher register ones. The manual says this can be fixed by tilting the pickup but that rarely makes a difference.

If you dont have a pickup in your acoustic and you need one but cant afford another guitar or to install a proper pick up I recommend giving this a try.

No more piezos!
Yai 30.11.2013
Seymore Duncan Woody SC SA-3SC is a visually pleasing option for getting an acoustic guitar a decent sound on stage with no feedback problems.

The pickup is a bit disfunctional with it's long cable which is in the way when playing. I installed the pickup to my acoustic guitar permanently and therefore I have no "cable in the way" problem. The woody pickup fits with natural finished acoustic guitar just perfect!

The sound feels more like a electric guitar through a DI-box because it's a magnetic pickup, not a microphone. The sound is brialliant and it has a decent amount of low end. The problem is overwhelming middle section. It has very much middle tones with a wide Q and it's a bit of a problem sometimes.

Becuse it's a magnetic pickup it has no feedback problems with wedge monitors and it can be played through a regular Marshall with no problems and sounding pretty good.

In the end, this product is a good competetive option for piezos with its good on stage features but in sound it definetely loses to traditional piezos.

Disappointing
LoïcM 11.07.2013
I expected more from this mic.

The sound is too much about high frequencies, very low medium and low.

It is quite strong though and the cable looks ok.

I wouldn't advice it.
