Does what it says!

I own a Taylor 214CEK DLX. The inbuilt Piezo pick-up system, ES2, sounds a bit thin. I wanted a simple solution to try and restore/add a little more body & warmth and restore the resonance without breaking the bank. I looked at many options that made similar claims but decided upon this one. I am running it along with the Zoom AC2 Acoustic Pedal into a Yamaha MG12XU mixer and I am getting a lovely warm tone using both pedals in tandem.

Of sturdy metal construction, this pedal is so simple to use. Just plug in the instrument, dial in your preferred tone and off you go! A single foot-switch engages the pedal or activates the bypass. It is True Bypass and also does not convert your signal to digital, so no latency issues with a dry signal. It also has inbuilt Feedback Suppression via phase reversal. This has to be set by unplugging, holding a button and plugging in power. I this mode the pedal is always activated and cannot be bypassed. Due to its compact design, it cannot house a battery and must be powered by the supplied PSU. There is also a USB port to enable firmware updates.

In summary, some may quibble about the price for such a simple uncomplicated pedal. That for me was the main selling point. The truth is most working acoustic players I know have a couple of go to sounds for their set and like it to be as easy as possible to achieve those sounds. I think this pedal delivers. I have not compared it practically with others so cannot give a direct comparison. I am sure there are better & more expensive ones out there but this suits my needs perfectly. I recommend it.

TC BodyRez

This tiny pedal has only one control and only does one thing, but yet again TC have squeezed a usb port in just above the power input socket (for toneprint?) This was a bit of a gamble for me as it is intended for acoustic guitar, but I want to use it with mandolin or bouzouki. I understand the principle that it thickens up the sound from a bridge under saddle pickup or similar device and makes it more like the true sound with the instrument's body resonance (hence the name). TC Electronic have never yet failed to impress me with their digital processing on just about every device (I have 4 of their pedals at present - 5 now). How can I rate this for "Features"? It only does one thing (as it comes out of the box), but if you can edit a toneprint for it then the possibilities are wide open. The official TC website doesn't yet mention Toneprint for this pedal, so it isn't clear if any will become available for other acoustic instruments. It works quite well with a bouzouki as it is, so I'll give it 3 stars for sound and also 3 stars for features as it comes out of the box.

A
Great for recording electro-acoustic guitars straight into mixing desk
Anonymous 04.10.2016
I bought this for my fairly lifeless sounding Yamaha acoustic to see if it could add some 'umph' to the sound rather than getting another acoustic. I was pleasantly surprised at how it cleans up the sound. To my ears it sounds like the aural-exciters boosting the sub-harmonics and upper-harmonics without muddying the sound and to this it does a very good job. Therefore I don't think you could get a similar sound with a standard graphic EQ as easy or as quick.

There is a definite boost the low end and a bright sparkle to the top. There is only one control knob which provides 'less or more' to the addition of the boosts. I run my acoustic into this BodyRez and then into a TC electronics Mini Spark boost and and the sound is really really good and would not even bother miking the acoustic now (unless it was only an acoustic of course). I also run my electro-acoustic classical through his set-up and also I am impressed with the sound I am getting.

The feedback canceller, I have not had a chance to try in live situation, but I did try it pushing the volume with a powered floor wedge monitor in the studio and it it worked fine, cutting out the offending frequency dead. So I would suggest it is must for the gigging electro-acoustic player.

All in all very happy with the purchase.

Works exactly as advertised

The Bodyrez is a really simple, easy to use, effective device. Plug it in, set the blend and you're off to the races.

I have had it for a couple years now and I use it at every gig where I play acoustic. I usually set it to about half and it does a good job of removing the piezo boxy sound but keeping most of the character of the guitar. I have only used it on entry level (300 - 500) acoustics so I cannot speak on it?s use with higher calibre acoustics. I rarely ever used the feedback killing feature but it worked fine. It doesnt pack a lot of features but it doesnt need to.

I would especially recommend it for an electric player who sometimes plays acoustic. It's a very handy pedal to have on your board and its tiny!
