Setup was quick for me, but being familiar with the instrument and having perfect pitch was definitely a factor. Every guzheng will require this procedure, so it's not a problem.
Very lightweight and responsive guzheng, though some bridge surfaces were a bit uneven which can create buzz. If this happens, adjustments of tension against bridge distance might fix things. For me, it required a bit of filing.
I treat mine like an extended-range koto, so the inconsistency of tone is something I was ready to manipulate anyway, but this is a perfectly suitable guzheng for a starter as well.
