Pro-level desktop interface

The Universal Audio Apollo Twin X Duo is an extremely versatile 10-in/6-out audio interface in a compact desktop format that can be run on Mac and PC via a Thunderbolt 3 connection. It is the new edition of the Apollo Twin, which is considered to be a classic among mobile Apollo interfaces, and features two Unison preamps and the improved 24-bit/192kHz Apollo X series converters. The Apollo Twin X is available in a DUO configuration with two Sharc processors for running the much-lauded UAD plugins. The "Realtime Analog Classics Bundle" and Luna DAW software (Mac only), both of which are included as standard, provide a quick point of entry into the world of UAD plugins.

Analogue sound for the digital era

The Unison technology seamlessly integrates the software of the UAD plugins into the internal mic preamp hardware to create a stunningly realistic simulation of legendary vintage preamps or guitar and bass amps. The Apollo Twin X Duo package also includes the "Realtime Analog Classics Bundle", including the UA 610-B preamp, the Marshall Plexi Classic amplifier, an Ampeg SVT-VR Classic bass amp, and a number of other well-known effects processors dating back to the vintage era of the Pultec EQP-1A and Teletronix LA-2A. The plugins can be used with almost zero latency while recording with the UA Console software, and it goes without saying that they can also be integrated into DAWs including Cubase, Logic, Live, and Pro Tools as part of the mixing process.

Ideal for mobile use

The Universal Audio Apollo Twin X Duo's compact dimensions, two Unison preamps, digital ADAT input, four analogue line outs, and of course its powerful and great-sounding headphone preamp make it the ideal companion for ambitious musicians and producers while on the road. But this high-quality 10-in/6-out audio interface also provides excellent performance in home and project studio applications. This device can be cascaded with both macOS and Windows using up to three other Thunderbolt interfaces from the Apollo series or up to five UAD-2 devices (e.g. UAD-2 PCIe or Satellite). It can upgrade an already elaborate studio setup, but is also ready to be disconnected and used on the go.

About Universal Audio

Few manufacturers can draw upon a wealth of audio engineering experience comparable to that of Universal Audio. The company’s founding father Bill Putnam, along with his friend Les Paul, have an admirable reputation as trend-setting music producers and developers of legendary analogue studio technology. Putnam recorded Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and Sarah Vaughan, and was Duke Ellington’s favourite sound engineer. He developed the famous 1176 Peak Limiter and distributed the Teletronix LA-2A level amplifier. This earned him a posthumous “Technical Grammy Award” in 2000. In 1999, Putnam’s sons, Bill Putnam Jr. and James Putnam, re-founded Universal Audio, transferring their father’s analogue vision and craftsmanship to the digital music world. Their product range includes audio interfaces, dedicated DSP farms, and a variety of plug-ins, as well as analogue hardware devices.

A perfect sound at all times

The Universal Audio Apollo Twin X Duo will suit anyone: Singer/songwriters, EDM producers who primarily work with digital equipment, or live keyboard players looking for a high-quality interface on stage. Since it can be cascaded with other models from the series, the Apollo Twin X Duo will also appeal to studio operators who need a compact tool that they can use while travelling and which integrates well into other extensive systems composed of Apollo interfaces and UAD-2 devices. The Universal Audio Apollo Twin X Duo takes the analogue charm of legendary Neve or SSL console sounds, iconic vintage compressors, reverbs steeped in history, and classic amps into digital production - the right choice for anyone who can't do without these on the road.

The Apollo Heritage Edition

The Heritage Edition of the Universal Audio Apollo Twin X Duo comes with five additional UAD plugins, or rather plugin collections. Pure Plate Reverb and the complete UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ collection are featured here alongside the more traditional effects from the "Realtime Analog Classics Bundle" with which users will already be familiar. Several classic UAD plugins that as standard are only included in their respective older Legacy versions are supplemented here by their newer and more elaborately modelled versions, namely the UA 1176, the Teletronix LA-2A, and the Pultec EQP-1A. Those who already own one or more of these plugins can choose from a selection of alternative products when they register their hardware.

In the spotlight: The meaning of SOLO, DUO, QUAD, and OCTO

Each Apollo interface features one or multiple Sharc processors for computing the "Console" mixer software and the UAD plugins. Each plugin consumes a fraction of the DSP chip's processing power (between one and sixty percent), depending on its complexity. A small percentage goes to the mixer software for internal signal processing and routing. The number of Sharc DSPs that are used in a Universal Audio device is indicated by the product description: There is one DSP chip in a SOLO unit, two in a DUO, four in a QUAD, and eight in an OCTO unit. The Apollo Twin X is available in both DUO and QUAD configurations.

Me & Apollo

Hello! I'm a music producer and guitarist and this is the love of my life . Of course you need to take one second and think :" is this the investment that I want to ?" This just change your sound from cheap to Professional . I'm not just talking about the amazing pre-amp but you have a good bundle of plugin for a Crazy price . If you are guitarist or bass player trust me this is your brother .
But now I'll tell you one sad point you don't have enough input but they are enough for an home studio . Otherwise I suggest to you to take the one with more inputs and outputs .
Have fun you will never forget it . It's like the first love or the first sex.

A
Great Interface
AlexxxDanger 30.11.2021
Once you get past the setup (which can be a headache if you're on M1), this interface performs exactly how you would expect.

The sound quality is great, with low noise levels and true sounding output when ignoring the unison preamps. The controls on the hardware are easy to use after the initial learning curve.

The onboard DSPs are super useful for zero latency tracking, you just have to be careful not to max them out. Certain UAD plugins hog the space quite a bit, so I recommend removing any tracking plugins after you're done with them to make room for others when you're mixing.

Overall great product, only con is the initial setup and slight learning curve for the UAD software. UAD plugins themselves are high quality and sound amazing. The included plugins are more than enough to get you started.

Great product if you are a mac owner
Täpiline Kõrv 15.01.2023
Love the zero latency, UAD console and all the plugins. My favourites are the ENGL Savage 120 amp and C-Suite C-VOX. The latter is a great noise suppressor for microphones. Amps sound great. It takes a bit of time to try out all the cab options etc to get the right sound.. But eventually you'll get there. The build quality of the device is superb and it's pretty intuitive to work with those buttons on the device.
On the bad side, Windows drivers just suck. I've had lots of problems with them and eventually just bought a mac. I've got a motherboard with TB3-4 support and everything from getting it to even connect to the PC has been a pain. I managed to get everything working but still got ~3 times a week total freeze of audio drivers & sometimes there were 1s hiccups... I probably messed ~3 months on Windows. I even upgraded to Windows 11 and reinstalled everything. Eventually I gave up and bought a Mac.
