Probably the cheapest guitar you can get to have "the" tone. Solid top makes a world of a difference. It really does sound a lot better because of it, no matter if you believe in tonewoods or not.
Guitar was shipped high relatively high string action, no fault of Thomann though as Yamaha always sets up their acoustic a little higher out of the box.
My piece went through a fret polish and complete setup to lower the action, I play mostly fingerstyle so I really needed that. I had a luthier install a piezo/internal mic Fishman system and this is likely to be my primary acoustic for years to come.
If you are willing to spend a little more than the absolute cheapest acoustic, you will be glad you did in this case.

Great Budget Acoustic
Anonymous 12.06.2016
Being poor all my life, I've owned a lot of budget acoustic guitars, but this one is the best by miles. It is very well made e.g. the fretwork is immaculate, and it plays great right out the box without having to do any setup whatsoever. It stays in tune extremely well and the sound is very nice for what you pay.

Premium Sound at an Unbeatable Price
roastbeef 24.09.2024
The Yamaha FG800 plays exceptionally well and delivers a crisp, clear sound that’s hard to beat at its price. The craftsmanship and tone quality are so impressive that if it carried a more premium brand name, it could easily cost twice as much. A fantastic choice for both beginners and seasoned players looking for high-quality performance without the high price tag.

Impressive value for money
fingerthumpin 08.06.2020
Punches well above its weight in build quality, playability and tone.
It holds tune exceptionally well, it has nice sustain and volume, and it's just a joy to play. Ideal for beginners, but it won't disappoint more seasoned players looking for a budget option.
It seems Yamaha take their budget guitars as seriously as their premium instruments. They haven't cut any corners, they've simply used cheaper materials in the construction to keep the costs down.
