o
a must-have synth for the price
omgedo 29.02.2020
Bought the Prophet about 2 years ago, loving it since. Very versatile instrument and the sounds are magic to my ears, especially with added reverb. The sound signature may not be for everyone but hey, what is. :-)

pros
- build quality is great
(some people are complaining but it seems that I got lucky0
- I very much like the keyboard
- very useable layout, almost everything is well thought out
- dat phat Prophet rich sound
- looks as good as it sounds!

cons (all minor in my opinion)
- did encounter a few glitches with various elements from time to time, but nothing a reboot wouldn't fix
- mod/pitch wheels being above the keyboard took some adjusting to
- the display is a joke

Love this synth. Would definitely recommend 16 voices, 8 was right away not enough. With multi-voicing of this synth, running two sound and may be a sequencer all at the same time, you just need 16 voices.

Have the synth for couple months now, sound are very soft, what I really like. Could not get really sharp sound until now, if that is what you seek, maybe look for other synth.

All in all synth really worth it. With 16 voices and all abilities would buy it again. (also over Prophet 5 and 6)

A joy to play
Sigmoid Al 11.05.2020
Very nice solid construction and high quality controls and keyboard. If you like the DSI sound then this will please.

A lot of possibility, I recommend you try one and see if you love it or not. The physical quality of this synth is great so it is just a matter of if it fits your budget and taste. Some people seem to dislike the idea of the digital oscillators (DCO) at the start of the signal chain.

IMHO let your ears decide for YOU!

Everybody has an opinion, some say another DSI, the Mopho X4 is no good, but again, if you play one, you will probably find it is a lot of fun with many sonic possibilities...

The Rev 2 Prophet synth sounds lovely, just different from say the OB6 with its VCOs. (Which is also a corker).

JV
One of the best modern analog polysynths
Jean-Claude Van Damme 05.09.2022
The build quality is outstanding.
The soft keybed is pleasant (with expressive enough aftertouch) and makes for a good master keyboard.
The programming of sounds is about as clear as can be.
While the VCOs, VCF and VCA are analog, modulations are digital: that's the simplest way of building the kind of extensive modulation matrix this synthesizer sports. That's excellent for flexibility, but it tends to make audio-rate modulations sound duller than if they were fully analog.
Other synths of this brand have fully analog modulations, and thus sound better, to flexibility's detriment.
The same can be said about effects like distortion, or the high-pass filter for example: some DSI/Sequential synthesizers offer these as part of the analog signal chain, but this one only offer them as algos in the digital FX section, which comes with inherent limitations.
All in all, this compromise helps keeping the synth half affordable while amazingly featured.
