I bought one of these swithces as upgrade for my Fender Telecaster AM Pro.
I implemented configuration "SS3" mentioned in the documentation of Shaller (the config adds an "in-series" and an "out-of-phase" position to the typical Tele config).
PROS:
- Documentation: The docs from Shaller are really great. From the way the switch is documented, it's impossible to do wiring mistakes.
- Configurations: This switch allows you to implement a LOT of different configurations
- Size: The danger of 5-way super switches is that sometimes they are too big and they don't fit in the cavity. This Megaswitch on the other hand is built in such a way that you'll NEVER have this issue.
- Precision: it's one of the easiest switches to use that I tried in my life. It's very clear in which position the switch is, as oppose to bad switches, that with time become very sloppy and unprecise, and especially positions 2-3-4 will not stay stable anymore. This is a very high quality feature.
- Big Pads: the soldering pads are very big and they accept soldering iron extremely well (I set soldering temperature on 370 deg Celsius)
CONS:
- Soldering experience: you should take into account that you don't have through hole pins, but only pads. This makes it harder to solder in case you have multiple connections to one pad. I recommend a bit of soldering experience if you're interested in this item.
- Click: I hear a slight click/pop when going into position 4. I don't know if it's caused by a defect of the switch manufacturing, or by the presence of additional capacitor for the out-of-phase position. I'll update this comment once I'll know it.
Overall, I like this switch very much.
I'm extremely happy I finally have the "in-series" position on my Tele, a nice fatter/bigger sound which is even hum-cancelling !
Biggest pro is the documentation, which helps A LOT and gives plenty of inspiration for new/weird/special/crazy wirings for guitars of ANY pickup config.
