Noise-free plugging and unplugging
Kaiviti 30.12.2019
First off, I'm a Neutrik fanboy but previously had stuck with the regular straight and angled plugs on the principle that simpler is more reliable, nothing moving so nothing to break etc. Then time came to make another guitar cable so I thought I'd try one of these. I was very pleasantly surprised at just how well this works, I thought there might be some sockets it didn't work so well with and would maybe sometimes still make a noise or cut the signal but so far, having tried with a load of different guitars of different makes, models and ages it just works perfectly!

Like all other Neutrik products, super easy to solder on and good, robust cable clamp, well made, solid product.

R
Neutrik NP2 RX-Au Silent Plug
Robert814 18.04.2015
I've been using these for over 5 years now, ever since they first became available. All my guitar leads eventually get one BOTH ENDS! I like to be able to use any lead of any length with any guitar or bass. A Stratocaster needs a straight one of course, but I'd use the same lead the other way round with a right-angle plug for a Telecaster. No problem with passive electronics, but if (like me) you put a silent plug BOTH ENDS then the signal is shorted out if you plug into the guitar only. No problem to me as all my instruments are passive. I must admit that there have been no problems with active instruments belonging to other band members, so the warnings from the official Neutrik spec appear to be a bit OTT. These plugs are of excellent quality and precision. The gold plating will not tarnish (as bare brass would) and the microswitch is glass encapsulated, so the contacts will not tarnish. I did get used to always unplugging from the amp first, then always using the tuner as a mute switch, which I still do. These plugs are the last line of defence for the amp and speakers. I see no reason to put unnecessary strain on the amp or speakers with pops and bangs.

Great idea, but won't last

I have had several of these from Thomann over the past couple of years and every single one breaks after only a few weeks of use, either the silent sleeve falls out or the unit shorts somewhere internally around the silent sleeve (and nothing to do with my soldering) . . . I'll stick to the regular angle plug in future, they work just fine.

Perfect for lazy slobs

If it is made by Neutrik or Victorinox, just close your eyes and buy it. You will not find better designed and manufactured articles anywhere else on the planet.

Does what it says with style. The highest quality jack with the innovative 'silent' feature allowing it to be removed straight from the guitar without unplugging at the amp first. Great for lazy slobs
